Beginner poker rules and how No-Limit Texas Hold’em works
Usually Texas Hold’em No Limits is played at once with 6 to 10 players. There are times when the game can be played between 2 players (this is known as the “head”). When you visit the table you will find various symbols and numbers. Numbers and symbols have different ends during the game. Depending on the online poker room you are playing in, the appearance and position of symbols and numbers may vary.
Below is a list of the things to know and what you’ll find at the table when playing No-Limit Texas Hold’em:
Chips
On the table (virtual or vice versa) you will see a number next to each player. The number shows how many chips the player has.
Pot
The pot has a certain amount of chips. The number of chips in the pot represents the dollar value (fake or otherwise) you can receive if you win the current hand.
Dealer
The game dealer is usually shown on the table either online or offline. These are usually people who deal with the cards during a poker game. However, when playing online poker you will notice that no actual card transactions are required. The dealer changes to the next player in a clockwise manner, after each hand and is revealed by the button (usually denoted by a white chip with a large “D” on it).
Little bind
The player to the left of the dealer (or the dealer button as described above) is known as the small bind. They are required to contribute a certain number of chips before the hand starts. The number of chips required is determined by the stake in the poker game.
Great Bind
The player to the left of the small tie is referred to as the big tie. They are required for a larger number of chips into the pot than a small tie (mostly times the amount added by small ties). This must also be done before the hand starts.
Starting from the hand
Each player at the table is dealt two cards each. The cards are face down and only players can see their own cards. The starting hand of a poker game is also referred to as a “hole card.” Four rounds of betting are possible, that is, if the hand reaches the end. The four betting rounds are Pre-Flop, Flop, Turn and River (or 5 th Street). During each round, players take turns making decisions, this is done in a clockwise manner around the table.
It is important to remember that the goal of the game is to make the best possible hand, using only five of the seven cards between the two in your hand and the five “community” cards on the table. Knowing a complete hand description is essential if you are new to the game of poker and we will cover that after we cover the hierarchy of hands.
